Success Story for Wyre Forest Dormice
Dormice have done rather well in Wyre Forest this year especially in Ribbesford Wood which has had its third best ever record. Ribbesford Wood is an extensive remnant of the much larger Wyre Forest, which used to be a lot bigger than it is today, and is owned by the Forestry Commission. It has been one of the best years for breeding with many dormice having 2 litters. In the main bloc of the Wyre Forest, 5 dormice from 3 generations were found in one box! With numbers of dormice in the UK having declined by 38% since 2000 this is certainly good news for Wyre Forest and the dormice population.
