Liaison Meeting with Forestry Commission Rangers

Members of the Wyre Forest Society committee met with Forestry Commission rangers for an update on current work being undertaken in the forest.

In Birchen Park there has been thinning of broadleaf trees as well as tidying up of windblown areas as a result of Storm Doris. An area of mainly diseased sweet chestnut trees has been clear felled and burnt. This will be left fallow for 2 years and be host to Forest Pigs. Other examples of thinning includes conifers in Kinlet, Corsican pines in Buttonoak and mature beech in Earnwood. Longdon Orchard and Wimperhill are among other areas which will undergo woodland management.

Following on from the success of last year, 2017 has been a record year for dormice with over 130 counted in Ribbesford Woods.
